Handmade solid wood chopsticks, made in Canada from salvaged native hardwoods and an environmentally friendly food safe finish. Each pair comes with a beautiful protective sleeve, made from scraps of vintage kimono fabric.
Choose from a single Eco Warrior pair, the Lover's set of two, or the Kitchen Makeover set of 6 pairs (hint hint: makes an awesome wedding or housewarming gift!).
:: HOW IT'S MADE ::
These will be custom made for you. We take small strips of maple or birch wood that we salvage from broken furniture, wood shop scraps or offcuts. We then shape them on a belt sander, giving the ends distinct faceted shapes for flair and to facilitate matching the pairs. They are finished with a durable eco and foodsafe hard wax oil, and polished to a silky soft surface with really, really fine steel wool.
The protective sleeve, made from scraps of vintage kimono fabric, is made for us by our dear and talented friend Michelle, of eco-conscious fashion label Simone's Rose. The sleeve is a great way to carry them in your bag, protecting your chopsticks and the planet at the same time!
:: MATERIAL ::
We choose long scraps of maple and birch, both of which are excellent choices for chopsticks, with their neutral flavor, tight grain and extreme hardness.
:: DIMENSIONS ::
Our handmade chopsticks are approximately 10 inches long, and the sleeves are approximately 6" long.
:: PROCESSING TIME ::
For the Eco Warrior and Food Lovers Sets, please allow 1 week to fill your order, and 2 weeks for the Kitchen Makeover set.
:: Entirely reclaimed materials ::
All of our wood is reclaimed and salvaged; rescued from the side of the road or scraps from Aaron’s custom furniture orders. All metal is recycled as well, from old jewellery to scraps of electrical copper wire.
:: Eco Finish ::
We use a hard wax oil to finish our chopsticks. Hard wax oil is a natural and zero-VOC mix of oils, resins and waxes that is totally foodsafe and eco-friendly.
:: Caring for your item ::
It is very easy to care for your B&B goods. We recommend simply rinsing your chopsticks with water, no soap, and drying them right away to lengthen their lifetime. A care card is included with the set.
Wood and liquid are not the best of friends, so do refrain from completely submerging and soaking your B&B product in water or any other liquid. The liquids and oils from the meal being eaten is totally fine!
